Marnie Morat was born in Perth, Western Australia, where she completed a degree at Curtin University in graphic design. She worked as a graphic artist in advertising agencies around Australia. Marnie has been living in the French island of New Caledonia in the South Pacific since 1993. She worked as a freelance designer and illustrator for several years before devoting her time to creating her own art. Her first solo exhibition was held in Noumea in 1998. Since then she has held five other one-man shows and many group exhibitions. Her work is held in private collections around the world. Marnie now devotes herself to her artwork, her family and her passion for surfing.

« I like to work with various mediums including watercolour, ink, acrylics and pastels. My inspiration comes from my family and friends, from the sea and all the beauty it provides and the lifestyle we enjoy on such a unique island. New Caledonia has a great variety of cultures and landscapes and as such is an endless source of inspiration. »

« I try to convey in my paintings a sense of peace and harmony. When I paint I must be calm and quiet… that’s when I can see the beauty in the simple things that we often rush past. »
